You are correct in saying that one of the important things to do to protect your tokens is not to leave them on exchanges. Sadly for me and many others, Coinbase has without explanation frozen my ability to send my tokens to my wallet. Months later this is still the case and it is impossible to talk to anyone about this.
Therefore PLEASE STAY AWAY from Coinbase. And no, I am not a bot, just a very disheartened Coinbase user.

Hm, while risk vs reward is true when it comes to altcoins, that same held true for bitcoin back in 2011, which I remember, there were certain forums I was on where people were at the time reluctant to accept bitcoin and would rather accept giftcards and/or stealth paypal payments, bitcoin was considered risky and was usually cashed out instantly because people weren't sure about the fundamentals of it.
Now it's easy to look back at those that were ehm, let's just call it "forced to hodl", and think they were so smart because they got in early, when realistically they may not have held at all under different circumstances..
We look at bitcoin now and think yea that is a sound investment, compared to other alts it is the least risky and best long term investment, when back then the same was true for bitcoin vs stocks, the altcoin "degens" of today (given the project has actual fundamentals and usecase), were the (for the most part) bitcoiners of back then.
Bitcoin back then was just as risky as EOS or Solana in 2018, and Cardano or Solana today, some make it and some won't, simple but all still equally risky if you want to get in early
