Danny Ryan’s Supporters Push for Leadership Role
As Ethereum grows, the community has increasingly pushed for Danny Ryan, who played a crucial role in transitioning the blockchain to Proof of Stake, to step into a more prominent leadership role.
Ryan’s supporters argue that his technical expertise and long-term vision would give the Foundation the leadership needed to push Ethereum forward. Despite these calls, Buterin made it clear that such decisions remain his to make, stressing the need for reforms before any structural changes can be considered.
Toxicity in the Ethereum Community
In his post, Buterin also condemned the toxic behavior within the Ethereum community. An issue has been the harassment of Aya Miyaguchi, the Ethereum Foundation’s current executive director.
Miyaguchi, who has been in the role since 2018, has faced personal attacks and even death threats from some members of the community. Buterin described these actions as “pure evil” and expressed concern about how such toxicity could deter talented developers from contributing to the Ethereum ecosystem.
Efforts to Improve Foundation Communication
In response to these challenges, Buterin announced on January 18 that the Ethereum Foundation will implement changes to improve developer communication and support the broader Ethereum ecosystem.
These changes aim to enhance support for decentralized application (DApp) developers, strengthen privacy, and promote censorship resistance. Despite these reforms, Buterin was adamant that the Foundation would not take a more centralized approach or engage in political lobbying.
