About the job
ASSOCIATE EDITOR, ART MARKET, NEW YORK OFFICE
The Art Newspaper is looking for a skilled, confident and experienced art market writer and editor to join the dedicated team of journalists in its New York office. The ideal candidate is a team player with a track record of producing great content, including breaking news, investigative reporting and features for digital and print media, with accuracy and speed. An ability to work well to deadline and under pressure and a good contact list are essential. Experience with art market reporting, including covering auctions, fairs and legal cases, is especially valuable, as is a background in editing, including developing and commissioning story ideas.
The Associate Editor, Art Market works closely with the Editor, Americas in New York and the Art Market Editor in London to execute editorial coverage in print and online of stories in or about the region of the Americas.
The role comes with benefits (including a healthcare package) and an annual salary in the range of $55,000 to $60,000 depending on experience.
Key accountabilities:
Work with the Art Market Editor and Deputy Art Market Editor to ensure that the section’s editorial strategy is in line with the overall editorial strategy for the brand and ensure the most efficient use of resources.Write longform features, shorter reported stories, and news briefs for the monthly print edition of the publication as well as shorter articles analysing items of breaking art market news for online as needed, as well as working with the Editor, Americas on relevant contributions to US news stories.Closely follow online art news, particularly related to the art market in the Americas and work with the Art Market Editor and Deputy Art Market Editor to plan and post stories from the print edition and unique web stories consistently and in line with the digital editorial strategy.Contribute to and help edit special projects including fair dailies, regional focuses and investigative reports.Regularly meet with major dealers, collectors, auction house specialists and press representatives of leading market events and organisations.
