The word “Metaverse” is thrown around constantly by the mainstream media, but somehow VRChat is always ignored- despite being the largest social VR platform with users spending tens of THOUSANDS of hours of their life in it… unlike Metaverse platforms such as Horizon Worlds and Decentraland. Where does our community fit into all of this? Watch the video as I break it all down.

Just capitalists doing capitalism. If it's free, they don't see value in it, beyond concepts and designs they can steal from it. It's more or less the same problem with free open source software. If they actually market the game, journalists might stop sleeping on it.. at least the ones that can afford to drop a couple grand on the necessary hardware to play it to it's full potential. On the flip side: more people, usually brings more problems, especially if there's not good enough moderation for the load. 🤷
Don't interrupt your enemy when they're making a mistake
As a millennial myself I did dismiss VRChat due to only being aware of it during the early years. And now that I"m buying my first VR Hedset I'm glad to be taking a real look at how far VRChat has come.
im the minority part of viewers that doesnt play vr chat but wants to get into it. i just dont have any idea where or how to start
omfg pokemon mystery dungeon ost !! >:0
“Revolution won’t ever be televised..” besides, it’s good they don’t look at it, they’d screw up most the worlds.
If meta ignore VrChat, they won't try to ruin it
You need to find somebody not cancer, and that's not really easy
vrchat is how i stayed alive in 2020-2021, i was DEFINITELY not old enough to play, but i still had fun 😭😭
its sad to see ppl ignore it like this
When it was first announced I was so excited for the metaverse until I realized the avatars Don't give you nearly as much freedom as VR chat I'm not going to play it unless I can be predator with a Burger King crown
Just call it the matrix as William Golding intended 😂
Snow crash? Nah, neuromancer
I totally flipped my wig when I saw a friend of mine in this video, I role-play with a group called the black tie butler society, it awesome anyone with access to play vrchatshould definitely check out there world (The black rose).
please let them ignore us…we don't need everyone's grandma in here. seriously.
I'm afraid that the moment zuck notice it he'll try to straight up buy VR Chat. So I really do hope that day will never come
Lack of coverage is a few things. First layer is just the extrame freedom and the multitude of alt lifestyle folks running around as strange animals and anime characters is essentially not what any mainstream media wants to portray a real metaverse as. Even the RP1 movie had everyone looking realistic and mostly like western CG at most. So that's really the optics turn off that keeps anyone even wanting to acknowledge it in passing.
But behind that optics issue is that VR Chat's freedom mostly seems to blast right through copyright barriers and shoot down any hope of corporate acceptance or monetization. None of the media is going to cover VR Chat regardless of what cool stuff is going on or in spite of the anime avatar aesthetics, because there's no way there will be money in it, and the rights use question is a legal quagmire at best when it comes to the media portraying images or footage from VR Chat. Again, even the RP1 movie only really showed characters from franchises that were within the reach of the companies making the film. Many characters and roles and bands and so-on were omitted from the movie due to this. The second they're showing off that the real cool place in VR is all about having Star Wars Pod Racing with characters from a Miyazaki movie, Dragonball, and Halo, anyone from the sort of big media corporate background will know that showing that is going to upset someone in their legal department, or the corporation that owns the outlet.
And that last point is really the final nail. When all the major media outlets are owned by bigger corporations and media conglomerates which are owners of at least a few of the properties that are going to likely be getting used regularly in VR Chat, or, those corps are themselves pushing to be part of some kind of monetized Metaverse situation at some point, they would only be hurting themselves to even recognize VR Chat exists. (Because even showing it off as a bad thing is going to pique people's curiosity.)
Better to pretend the only metaverses are the big, corporately sterile, 'safe' spaces where either money can be made, or, the whole concept is so clearly poorly executed that it will be obviously easy to ridicule in order to damn the entire concept of the metaverse.
VR chat has some flaws, but it's got freedom, it's anti corporatem and it works; and no media outlet has a message they want to push that has room for a liberal, anti corpo, working VR metaverse type platform. Especially not one full of people presenting as anime girls.
A case in point I know a lot of pilot and aviation friends who I'd love to share the video about VR Chat's flight sim community. But I know deep in my heart the amount of anime avatars on display is going to do immeasurably more harm to their conception of what VR can be than any of the positive messaging that could come from the story of that video. It won't matter that flying in VR Chat is cool or that the community is really great, because the avatars will instantly make them nope out.
Ypu just said early porn exposure is good you disgusting individual
Booze and bear
I think the people who make VRchat should just do their own metaverse platform. VRchat is what people want to escape to and already exists, but the business aspect is what will get the average person into VR. Im talking about being able to work from home. There needs to be a platform where you can show off a product and its components to factories from acorss the world. Even being able to virtually tour a real house or a real musuem, or seeing a basketball game courtside without actually being there is the future. Unfortunately, because VRchat has so much freedom it would not be the place to conduct business. No one wants to go to a VR meeting and see sonic the hedge hog making racists remarks. The business side of things could also be huge for marketing. You could have VR billboards advertisements, even online stores which are ways a VR world could generate money from big corporations. There essesntially needs to be two platforms, one that mimics the real world that's suitable for simulators, concept development and even schooling, and the other that explores fantasy, world building and gaming.
How does VR chat sustain their platform if things are free? Is it free to use but they charge for a subscription for most of the features?
I find it weird that an app can support this with no monetization. Not that I want it to have it, I’m just confused.
so im getting a vr soon and decided "hey im prolly gonna end up spending quite alot of time in vrchat" so i learned how to model a character, failed, found a nice base to use, recoloured it, messed up the physics, but still uploaded it
as of writing this i still dont have the headset but i do really wanna get that model working
im fine with the base i used tho :3
but yeah my point is so many people are joining and if you already have freinds in the community then its so much easier to understand
it sucks how i want to play vrc all the tume but i can find nothing good or fun on there bc i play on quest😢
Vrchat is boring 😢
Meta Verse is already dead.
