Music NFT platform Sound.xyz has added support for Ethereum Layer 2 token Optimism (OP) into its functionality. Along with it is a stunning tribute to Vitalik Buterin, the billionaire programmer and Ethereum co-founder. Artists can now mint the “V Buterin song” about the Russo-Canadian tech guru as a free non-fungible token (NFT).
Optimism Collective Brings Sound to Layer 2
Music collectors have been grappling with high network transaction fees that increase the cost of getting or deploying a song. In addition, artists need a significant amount of Ether in order to deploy a song on the Sound Protocol. This is a non-starter for many, particularly those who are not crypto holders.
To deal with this situation, Sound has partnered with Optimism, a Layer-2 scaling solution for the Ethereum network, to ensure enhanced uploading and collecting of songs at “reduced gas fees and lightning-fast transactions.
According to the announcement, uploading songs on the Optimism network will ensure:
Reduced costs: Artists will see up to a 90% reduction in gas costs to upload and collect songs.
Faster transactions: Transaction speeds are expected to improve up to 6x.
Universal accessibility: Users who don’t have Ethereum (ETH) tokens can pay with a card on Mainnet or Optimism.
Sound developers expressed their excitement about being among the “pioneers bringing on-chain music to Optimism” saying, “Introducing a Layer 2 is mission critical to building a world where artists can earn a living from their music alone.”
An excerpt from the statement read:
“We specifically chose Optimism not only to unlock cheaper and faster transactions, but also because we share similar philosophical ideals. Just as we aim to help artists better profit from their art, Optimism has a unique funding mechanism that rewards builders who contribute to the ecosystem.”
Sound said that the partnership with Optimism is significant because it makes it directly possible for artists to earn more, and reduces the “financial barrier to entry for all participants.”
Moving forward, Sound is looking to support multiple networks by first “prioritizing accessibility and then quickly making Sound open to the public.”
Sound Honors Vitalik Buterin
The Music NFT platform has offered tribute to Ethereum creator and co-founder Vitalik Buterin through a Eurodisco dance track, a song christened “V Buterin.” Note that the single track is available for sale until June 19. Interested investors can mint it for free on the Web3 music NFT platform Sound.xyz.
So far, more than 27,000 free music NFTs have been minted. The mint will continue for the next five days.
The move by the Sound Music NFT platform to honor Buterin has been lauded by enthusiasts in the NFT space including Gigamesh, Sound.xyz co-founder who said he was honored when he was called upon to “spice up the masterpiece to celebrate” the Russo-Canadian billionaire programmer.

According to those who have listened to the song, the co-creators have mimicked the style used in Boney M’s 1978 hit track “Rasputin.” It is said that the song references Buterin right from the start, saying:
“Twas born a brilliant man in Russia long ago…He dropped out of school with a perfect 4.0.”
Just from the first line, one can tell that the track details Vitalik Buterin’s exploits and life journey, transcending into his swift rise to fame after building the Ethereum network and earning himself an iconic name in the crypto space.
Owing to its popularity, the song has been extrapolated to compliment Cardano (ADA) executive, to bear the tag name “Aint no Charles Hoskinson.”
Music NFTs allow Music lovers and digital art enthusiasts to directly support their favorite artists. Moreover, being able to deploy them on the Optimism blockchain will be a practical show of fan hood, marking the beginning of many more advantages to come.
