My retirement savings got wiped out in 2008 but was only 3 grand.

Crypto cannot replace goverment notes, governments just won't let it happen. Think, for good or bad, all governments want full control of their money supply and will not relinquish it to crypto. If the government decides to snuff crypto out, a few simple laws or regulations will do it in a heartbeat. Anybody "investing" in crypto is just dangerously banking on a ponzi scheme or playing the greater fool game. Financial history repeats itself over and over again due to human greed and fear.
