If I may David, as someone who has used my Sony a6000 as a webcam, all I needed was a Camlink 4k which allowed me to output the full 1080p image from my camera through its HDMI out port. With a newer camera, it could output up to 4k, hence the name of the device. The Camlink 4k allows the computer to see the camera's output as a virtual camera or webcam input with no crappy software required. Hope that helps! Thanks for another great podcast!

The niche I and other 3d artist/animator friends are in of using vr tools and finding them so insanely useful is something I desperately want covered more. I think if meta was being smart and saw this they could position themselves the way Apple used to with their headset being an incredible tool for creatives, which I think would help expand the user base beyond gamers / teen boys to the same demographic of creative pros and amateurs that is the same as the ones buying iPads for procreate.
I really wish this got more attention, I feel like I’m yelling into the abyss about this constantly as myself and friends use these now vaporware tools to game-changing effect, and yet there is almost zero interest from meta/developers/investors/journalists in talking about this, but really exciting potential nonetheless.

The Sonos app still has a really long way to go to being considered anything more than fine at best imo. I have a roam speaker, and it takes digging through multiple settings menus to find something as simple as the battery percentage, which is maybe the most important thing for a battery-powered speaker. I like the company, but they messed up big time. Hope they can make a full comeback!

I don't know about others but I don't need Facebook.
I prefer to post in places where people don't know it's me, so that they can't later surface up my old posts and turn them against me.
That leaves Instagram that we need to place photos of our memories but other than than I don't see place for Facebook in lives of younger people that are conscious about what cancel culture can do to your career

2 weeks ago did an episode on privacy (“Samsung’s S25 Ultra and the end of the flagship phone“) and barely discussed it in regard to Meta cameras/mics/data sponges on faces, effects users and non-users alike in their homes and in public. Privacy nihilism is really a thing I guess.
Meta's relentless pursuit to dominate this digital frontier is as fascinating as it is ambitious. Here's to hoping their virtual world doesn't glitch as much as their social media algorithms.
