A Canadian man moderating a cryptocurrency discussion group online claims he became the target of a kidnapping plot.
According to a report from La Presse on January 6, the attackers allegedly planned to abduct him to gain access to his digital currency holdings.
The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, said the ordeal began on November 4, 2024, when two masked individuals threatened him outside his home. He managed to lock his door before they could act.

On November 8, 2024, the man noticed a car without a license plate parked near his house. As he drove away and contacted the police, one of the attackers pointed a gun at him after he pulled over.
Four suspects were arrested following the incidents. Two of them appeared in court in November 2024, charged with planning a kidnapping and possessing illegal firearms. However, they were released on bail and confined to house arrest until their trial in March.
The man described the events as extremely violent and said he continues to live in fear for his family’s safety. He has been moving between rental properties to remain hidden.
Speaking to La Presse, the man explained that he had been moderating a Facebook group for years, which led the attackers to assume he controlled 2.5 million Bitcoin
