Bhutan has introduced a new way for tourists to pay using cryptocurrencies through a partnership with Binance

The system was announced by the country’s Department of Tourism on May 7 and allows visitors to cover costs like hotel stays, tickets, guides, and other services using more than 100 digital assets, including Bitcoin

It also allows travelers with Binance accounts to pay businesses in Bhutan by scanning a QR code with their phones. This includes small shops and craft sellers who may not have access to card payment machines.

The goal is to make it easier for tourists to pay without carrying local cash or exchanging currency. Binance added that travelers can complete purchases directly through their Binance app without needing to bring a wallet.
Additionally, Bhutanese businesses can now accept crypto payments without worrying about price changes. Payments are processed quickly, with low fees, and DK Bank handles the local settlements.
Binance’s CEO, Richard Teng, said the project shows how technology can make payments easier and help connect people from different places. He added,
