Japan’s NTT Docomo to develop Web 3.0 with Accenture, Astar Network

NTT Docomo, Japan’s largest mobile phone operator, has partnered information technology firm Accenture and blockchain infrastructure Astar Network to explore Web 3.0 adoption.

NTT Docomo, partially owned by the Japanese government, said on Tuesday in a statement that it will work to develop a technology platform to provide Web 3.0 products.Web 3.0 generally refers to the construction of a decentralized internet typically built around blockchains, the underlying technology of cryptocurrencies.NTT Docomo will offer training courses to nurture Web 3.0 talent, including engineers and business leaders.NTT Docomo will invest as much as 600 billion yen (US$4.1 billion) in developing Web 3.0 infrastructure and services, with plans to establish a dedicated Web 3.0 company in fiscal year 2023, the Nikkei Asia reported on Tuesday.In October, NTT Docomo reached a partnership with Polkadot-based blockchain infrastructure Astar Network to promote Web 3.0.
