Elon Musk’s social platform, X, has introduced a new messaging feature called XChat.
According to Musk’s post on X on June 1, it will include what he described as “Bitcoin
$105,070.44
-style encryption”.
The feature will support voice and video calls, disappearing messages, file sharing, and added security options. It is being built using the Rust programming language and is designed with a different system structure than X’s previous messaging tools.

X had paused its older encrypted messaging option on May 29 while working on upgrades. That change seems linked to the XChat rollout.
TechCrunch reported that XChat is being rolled out to premium subscribers and uses a four-digit passcode for protection.
The company has not given full technical details, but following Musk’s post, several figures in the crypto industry pointed out that Bitcoin does not actually use encryption in the way most people think.
Luke Dashjr, a Bitcoin core developer, stated on X that Bitcoin does not use encryption and also criticized the choice to use Rust, as it might not be ideal for secure systems. Another X user, known as Pledditor, explained that Bitcoin relies on elliptic curve cryptography, not standard encryption.
